Why they don't click
I have checked out many Obidala sites to see why people think Obi-Wan and Padmé make a good couple. Well... I found no websites with essays or info on why they would go well together. None at all! But if someone would point out a place where I can read about this, I would love to read it... for my daily amusement! ;)
Anyways, Padmé is very headstrong and outspoken. She does things her way, and is extremely stubborn. Padmé is weak-willed however, as demonstrated by how she gives into Anakin and kisses him, marries him, etc. It is selfish and pretty much stupid of her to do that. Obi-Wan needs a woman who would unselfishly keep her feelings and thoughts to herself, and respect his career as a Jedi. This is most definitely not Padmé.
Obi-Wan is a deep thinker, always thoughtful and aware of what goes around him. Padmé does not seem to me to be thoughtful at all, making impulse decisions throughout the SW films. She is rebellious and does things her way, like Anakin. That is why Anakin and Padmé make a good couple, they are alike.
I can't understand why people think that Obi-Wan and Padmé would make a good couple, because truthfully, they aren't anything alike, and their personalities would clash terribly. Of course fanfiction-ers can change the characters, which just totally disrupts everything. Most Obidala stories make Anakin a rapist, a cheater, a wife-beater. Padmé runs to Obi-Wan for support or whatever. Of course he would help her, being a Jedi. But fall in love? I doubt it.
Obi-Wan doesn't trust politicians. He dislikes Padmé for leading his padawan astray. Padmé essentially led to the downfall of the republic. Obi-Wan managed to save the mess she made. He is the Hero. She messed up. They make a perfect couple. Yeah. ;)
Let us endevour to observe the 'proof'...
Let's examine the evidence……… okay, there really isn't anything substantial. There are certain scenes that are often interpretted by Obidala-ers as romance. But are they?
Scene 1. In The Phantom Menace, where Padmé reveals herself to truly be the Queen, Obi-Wan smirks as if he knew something. Obidala fans believe this is because Obi-Wan knew Padmé was truly Queen… but we believe he knew it was Sabé playing a role… Obi-Wan had a lot more time around Sabé than Padmé, giving him more time to figure out Sabé was Queen.
Scene 2. In Attack of the Clones, they say hello to each other. Big woop, right? But, Obidala fans are excited by the smile on Obi-Wan's face, the grin on Padme's face.
Scene 2. In AOTC, when Obi-Wan returns from checking out security, he notes that Anakin is using Padmé as bait. Anakin looks uncertain and says it was Padmé's idea. Obi-Wan immediately reprimands him, saying it's too risky. Obidala fans think he is worried about Padmé, while the truth is most surely he is pissed off at Anakin for doing something stupid.
Scene 4. Ah, the famous Obi-Wan-loves-Padmé scene... Not. Anakin says "I can sense everything going on in that room!" Obi Wan disagrees. "Your sense's are not that attuned, my young apprentice." Anakin scoffs. "And yours are?" Obi Wan looks incredous, as if he can't believe it. Of course his senses are more attuned, after all, he's been a Jedi all his life, unlike Anakin. Obi-Wan, still unbelieving, says "Possibly." Obidala fans think Obi-Wan and Anakin are arguing over who is more connected to Padmé, when in truth, Obi-Wan is again pissed off at his silly padawan.
Scene 5. When Padmé is hell-bent on rescuing Obi-Wan on Geonosis. I can't think of any amazing reasons why she'd be so adament. She hardly knows him, doesn't seem to be friends with him… and what's more, Anakin doesn't seem to care, and he is almost like Obi-Wan's son. The only reason I can think that Padmé would do this is for Sabé :P see the Episode II moments page. George Lucas just used Padmé to gett them on Geonosis. Bah.
You can most likely tell that I don't like Obidala. I don't. I never will! It really freaks me out.
